The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. (Proverbs 29:25 ESV)
Often when facing an insurmountable quest, (the quests’ that God loves to set before us) FEAR is our constant companion.
If Jiminy Cricket is our conscience,(The Holy Spirit)
then Hefè The Cockroach, is FEAR, his evil Twin brother.
Imaginative and lame as it sounds, it’s true.
My wife and I are in the beginning stages of a “God Quest” that is seemingly insurmountable. In fact every step thus far has been an impossibility without Him and with each step he has been nearer then the step before. The strange thing is, I have developed a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach it feels like a combination of gas, butterflies (I have two daughters, leave me alone), and getting kicked where it hurts most. I believe most refer to it as Anxiety! Now for those of you who are upset with me for “Confessing” that, I say you are one of two things; A. Not human, B. You’ve never taken a “REAL” step of faith.
Back to my point. “This is to huge” “You’ve never been truly successful at something like this” “It won’t work”, these are the thoughts that cross my mind every morning when I wake up. See what I mean? Hefè the cockroach of fear, vomiting in my ear every chance he gets. What I do with those thoughts determines my course of action, which ultimately effects the fruition of my destiny.
Fear lays it’s snare.
The snare of INACTION.
When we listen to fear, we fall into the snare of inaction. It makes total sense, Hefè has been screaming that we can’t, and it feels true. The result is small steps INSIDE the proverbial “Boat” Steps that take very little risk, steps that are very comfortable, steps that really go…nowhere.
INACTION!
The snare of fear.
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. (Proverbs 29:25 ESV)
We must remember that the Holy Spirit (Jiminy Cricket) is whispering in our ear as well. Saying; “This is what you were created to do”, “It’s bigger then you, but not beyond you”, “Take that step…trust me.” In Psalm 46:1, God promises to be our very present help in time of need and when we jump out of the “Boat”, we REALLY need him.
Three keys to avoiding the Snare of Fear.
1. Recognize that Hefè is relentless.
He won’t stop, and he gets louder when when confronted. To combat this we have to oversaturate ourselves with the promises of God and life giving relationships.
2. Watch for signs that you slipping into the snare.
- If your nickname could be Negative Nancy, You might be caught in the snare.
- If you am driven by insecurity, You might be caught in the snare
- If the steps you are taking DO NOT challenge you faith, you might be caught in the snare.
3. TaToo this picture of Hefè somewhere prominent on your body! There is no greater reminder.
